Incorporating Other Languages Into Our ESL Teaching Practices: An Overview of Plurilingual Approaches

In this webinar, Ingrid Jasor, a doctoral candidate in Education at the University of Quebec in Montréal (UQÀM), presented on plurilingual approaches to teaching ESL. Using a word-association activity, Jasor discussed with participants the importance of teachers’ conscious and unconscious social representations of the target language vis-à-vis other minoritized languages and how their own personal experiences can influence their teaching practices. Jasor also engaged the audience in two scenarios linked to plurilingual practices in the second language classroom, exploring together how they might adopt and/or adapt them in their own classrooms.
