-
Collaborations interlinguistiques/curriculaires entre des enseignant.es du français et de l'anglais  : l'enseignement plurilingue pour l'engagement critique

Project Description:

This SSHRC Insight Grant project (2023-2027) focuses on children’s critical engagements through English and French teachers' cross-language/curricular teacher collaborations across Québec and British Columbia. Using a collaborative action research approach, researchers and teachers work together to co-build relationship and capacity in identifying and maximizing reciprocal language learning opportunities, co-creating innovative instructional strategies and tools, promoting critical reading, and fostering students' intercultural awareness and civic engagement.

Project Goals:

The study aims to advance plurilingualism theory and instruction/assessment practices for critical learning, reconfiguring curricular coherence and coordination of English and French teaching and learning in immersion/intensive and other bilingual contexts to respond to the complex sociolinguistic realities of an increasingly interconnected world.

Project Details:

  • Investigates how Grade 4-6 English and French teachers in Quebec and British Columbia can collaborate across languages and subjects to enhance meaningful learning, especially for students from immigrant backgrounds.

  • Explores how through using literary texts in both languages can foster children's critical engagement with eco-social issues and create connections between languages for deeper understanding.
